Everything is for Eat!

My friend Lori was telling me the cutest story about her grandson.  Once when the family was sitting at the table eating dinner Lori didn't quite finish all her food, but she was done with her meal so she pushed her plate aside.  Her grandson immediately exclaimed, "Everything is for eat Gramma.  Everything is for eat!"

It took her a second to figure out what he meant, but then she realized he was trying to say what his mother tells him when she says, 'finish everything on your plate'.  Laughter ensued and this has become one of their favourite family expressions.

When she told me this story, I knew immediately that I had to cross stitch this unique expression for her.  While I was thinking about how I would design this piece, I was also trying to decide how I wanted to finish it.  Tracey and I were discussing it and we concluded that a flat-fold would be interesting.  This idea appealed to me because this way Lori can display it right on the table just where everyone can see it at dinner, and when not in use it would tuck nicely away.

This past week we all got together at Anita's to finish off some of our projects and Anita & I tried our hands at our first attempt of a flat-fold.  Silly me, I never thought to take photo's of the process, but below is the finished product.  When I set it down we all stood back to take a look and Tracey exclaimed how much it just 'popped' out at you.  She also commented that it was the perfect size and it reminded her of a reserved sign that you would see on a dinner table.  How appropriate.

And of course,
Sushi had to help with the photo session.

Then of course she had to check out the gift bags
to see which one was the best fit.

I was so happy to have the help to get this project finished this week because it was Lori's birthday and then she was going to be off for two weeks with her grandchildren so I wanted her to have it as soon as possible.  She was so excited when she opened it and saw what it was.  As luck would have it, the family was coming for dinner that night and she couldn't wait to sneak it onto the dinner table.

The thought occurred to me that I don't need such a sign on my table because I certainly don't have a problem when it comes to Everything Is For Eat!

What a thoughtful gift...SO happy Lori liked it Bonnie! Can't wait to hear her family's reaction.

Now that we know how, I'm sure this will be the first of many flat-folds we make :^)
