All Things Green

My mantle is all dressed up and ready to go for the 17th! (I'm thinking it looks a bit sparse though... maybe needs some different colours added to the mix. I'll have to be on the lookout for some extra things to add to the collection between now and next year.)

I stitched this piece in 2009, but this is the first year I've had it displayed. Didn't have it done in time to have out that first year, and last year it was packed away while we did our renos, so when I unpacked it this year, it seemed like it was brand spankin' new!

LUCK

by Bent Creek

This mug is very special to me. It belonged to my Nana and I can still see her sitting in her chair with her hands cupped around it drinking her morning coffee. I know her and my Bampa made a trip to Ireland once in their married life (I don't remember when, so I'm thinking it was before I was born), so I think this may have been brought back from that trip. I never noticed the band of little shamrocks (so cute!) until it came into my possession when she died. Now, I don't drink coffee or tea, but I still love it and the memory behind it.

This sweet little gem also came from Nana's house, in amongst a pile of other hankies. Did it come from that same trip? Did she buy if for herself, or was it brought back as a souvenir for her daughter Dorothy? I guess it's something I'll never know, since my Dad and his whole family are now gone...

I am truly thankful to have these cherished treasures to remember them by.

What a beautiful display! I love the (what looks to be) crocheted shamrocks on the garland. Nice treasures, too. I love having things that mean something to me around me, especially when they evoke memories like your mug does.

Beautiful display! The crocheted shamrock banner is fabulous and your stitched pieces just pull the whole thing together. Love it!

Love your decor Tracey! Those crocheted shamrocks are just TOO cute :o) I see you have a couple of shamrock plants. I have one that came from my DH's grandma. I love it.

Love, love, love your shamrocks. I might have to steal that one as well. You asked a question about my Little Dahlia Granny Square, I thought I would answer here. One the third round I skipped the single crochets and did the traditional 3 double crochets, chain 1, in each chain space, and 3 dc, ch2, 3 dc in the corners. I don't think I have any tricks or tips on granny squares, I am certainly not a very good teacher. I am a great student though. I try things all the time. I think that's why I don't have that many finishes. I guess it's just "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." Thanks for your comments. Have a happy day.

What beautiful family heirlooms! The display is so pretty, and I especially like the mug and the story behind it. I've been in the mood to put away my winter decorations, so your mantel is great inspiration! This is my first visit to your blog; I look forward to viewing your other posts!
